Homemade Paper Valentine’s Cards

This year for my son’s first ever Valentine’s Day exchange, I wanted to do Valentine’s the way I made them as a kid. None of those store-bought, tear-apart cards that are basically just advertisements for cartoon characters – I’m talking the real deal!

It’s a fun activity for the kids, and even a fun, therapeutic activity for yourself, and helps keep the kids busy in a super fun way. Use any supplies you already have to make beautiful Valentine’s cards from the heart.

Get them involved by having them decorate the papers and even draw the shapes to cut out. Let older kids cut out their own if they’re good with scissors. I’m going to let my 3-year-old draw and experiment with cutting. He ended up a little frustrated, but got excellent and creative practice in.

Homemade Paper Valentine’s

Here’s what you need:

  • Construction paper or any paper!
  • Scissors
  • Glue (for attaching extra decorations)
  • Glitter
  • Feathers

Dress them up with magazine or newspaper clippings or other patterned images that you may have collected. Draw on them with crayons, pencils, markers, add stickers, cut out shapes, whatever you and your little ones like.

Have fun with your child and get creative!
